The Pithy Take

As Elisabeth Rosenthal details in An American Sickness, pharmaceutical companies and generic drug manufacturers make deals with each other that essentially swindle the general population out of more affordable medication. Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drug Company addresses this by expanding access to safe, affordable medicines by cutting out the pharmacy middlemen.

First, find your medication in their store (they do not have all medications available). Second, sign up for an account. Third, reach out to your doctor to receive your prescription—once the company receives the prescription, the customer heads to checkout.

Their prices are more affordable because they bargain directly with the manufacturers. The website also provides exact numbers for how much a customer will pay to keep the business running and how much it will cost to prepare and ship the prescription.

A disclaimer: I’ve not used this website for any prescriptions, but it seems like a worthwhile alternative. Please consult with your physician as needed.
