The Pithy Take

To be honest, I was surprised by how useful I found this book, even as someone who is well past the age of “young adult.” Kirk Taylor, a long-time financial advisor, suggests a bounty of information when it comes to taxes and financial health—not just about how to deal with taxes on student loans, but also how to succeed in college so that you can be financially healthful in the future. A short, useful book for any high school student, college student, or anyone else who wants to learn more about the basics of financial savvy.

You don’t have to become an expert, but you should understand the difference between a credit and a deduction (deductions reduce taxable income while credits reduce taxes—credits are better).
