The Pithy Take

Community supported agriculture is an innovative way of purchasing produce that benefits consumers and farmers. Essentially, a farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public (a box of vegetables, other farm goods, etc.). Consumers purchase a share (in the form of a membership or subscription), and in exchange, receive seasonal produce each week throughout the season.

This benefits farmers because they can receive payment earlier in the season, helping with cash flow, and also get to market earlier in the year, before the hard hours in the field begin. For consumers, they get to eat incredibly fresh food (and possibly new vegetables!) and visit the farm where their food is grown. CSA fosters a sense of community and a deeper breadth of food knowledge–find one near you today!
